At its January 2024 monthly meeting, the Sangerfield Democratic Committee approved the establishment of several subcommittees. The purpose of this is twofold:
(1) to examine issues and propose responses in a more in-depth way and to support the overall committee, and
(2) to engage others in our overall committee work to solicit more input and involvement.
Overall Committee and Chair Responsibilities
The Chair’s responsibilities are:
- To schedule, set agendas, and conduct Town of Sangerfield Democratic Committee meetings;
- To attend County Executive Committee Meetings;
- To attend Oneida County Democratic Committee Meetings if designated as a District representative;
- To fill District Representative Committee Membership;
- To coordinate Petition Drives; and
- To communicate Town Committee actions to members and county officials.
Subcommittees
Subcommittee Chairs may add any registered Democrat to their committee and are encouraged to do so.
Voter Participation and Candidate Development – Co-Chairs: Wood, Mariani, Hilley
- Identify open positions and terms at least one year in advance;
- Identify and orient candidates to the position and assist with campaign needs;
- Plan, coordinate and conduct petitioning drives to introduce candidates to voters and get them on ballots; and
- Coordinate with other committees on PR and funding for candidate recruitment and campaign funding.
Public Issues and Positions – Co-Chairs: Olin, Meile, De Agrella
- Review issue policies and recommend to the committee endorsements of Town of Sangerfieid Committee;
- Respond to issues that need a position taken;
- Plan events that engage individuals to explain issues; and
- Coordinate the recommendations with the overall Town of Sangerfield Committee.
Marketing and Promotion – Co-Chairs: Mariani, Olin, Fallon
- Update our website and Facebook with information on the activities and committee actions of the Town of Sangerfield Democratic Committee;
- Recommend participation in community events such as Cruisin’;
- Develop announcements and newspapers and assist candidates with campaign literature;
- Develop any promotional and informative signage, etc.;
- Coordinate and communicate with other committees;
- Identify newly registered Democrats and reach out to them; and
- Coordinate with the Board of Elections.
Fundraising and Finance – Co-Chairs: Yablon, Wood
- Setup and coordinate the summer BBQ;
- Work with other committees to assess funding needs;
- Solicit donations for events and to the overall treasury;
- Bring overall funding requests to the Town of Sangerfield Town Committee for approval;
- Maintain accurate accounts and send reports as requested to the State Board of Elections;
- Send thank you notes to all donors within 2 weeks of the donation; and
- Communicate with all other committees.
