Town of Sangerfield, Oneida County, New York

Mission

The mission of the Sangerfield Democratic Committee is to identify, advance and support the election of Democratic candidates, for local, state and national public office, who support and actively pursue legislation and policies consistent with our values and beliefs as expressed below.

We believe …

  • that all people are created equal and that they are endowed with certain inalienable rights, among them life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical and mental ability, or age.
  • that the rightful purpose of our government is to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.
  • that the purposes listed above are most successfully and broadly achieved when all people are afforded maximum opportunity to participate in our society and commerce and to enjoy the blessings of life, liberty and happiness.
  • that the only legitimate forms of government are those based on democratic principles whereby all adult citizens hold equal right and power to elect their leaders and affect the policies and actions of their nation.

We understand …

  • that federal government spending is limited not by the availability of dollars but by the availability of real resources.
  • that the federal government, being the issuer of the U.S. dollar and having debts only denominated in the dollar, cannot become insolvent and cannot run out of dollars.
  • that all net U.S. dollars come solely from federal government spending.
  • that the national debt is equivalent to the total of all cumulative federal government spending minus federal taxes returned and is the total of all net dollars in the economy.
  • that eliminating all net dollar assets would result in economic catastrophe.
  • that net dollar assets held as Treasury bonds are a burden to no one as they are redeemed using nothing more than computer keystrokes.

We support …

  • democracy and the rule of law.
  • expanded and expansive voting rights for all citizens, the bedrock on which our democracy depends for its very survival.
  • immediate and dramatic actions to mitigate and reduce the impacts of climate change.
  • a robust system of private enterprise, sufficiently regulated to prevent abuses and exploitation and to promote true competition, that fully employs the productive and creative capacities of our citizens.
  • a robust and caring government that provides those essential services that are not best performed by profit-driven private enterprise.
  • a federally funded job guarantee (FJG) that offers a dignified transition job with a living wage and full benefits to anyone who wants to work and is unable to find employment elsewhere.
  • elimination of FICA taxes and increased federal funding of Social Security.
  • free healthcare for all residents through implementation and expansion of Medicare for All (M4A).
  • increased federal spending on education and research in order to increase the productive capacity of our economy.
  • increased federal spending on childcare, eldercare, housing and infrastructure in order to improve the quality of life for all citizens.
  • progressive taxation that reduces income and wealth inequality and strengthens our democracy.
  • women’s right to autonomy over their own bodies with access to safe, legal abortions; we also recognize that the need for abortions will be minimized by providing comprehensive sex education, comprehensive healthcare, and economic opportunity and financial security for all.
  • student debt relief that will free millions of Americans from a debt that limits their economic participation and prosperity and threatens their financial survival throughout their lives.
  • campaign finance reform to undo the damage caused by the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision.
  • universal background checks and other common-sense legislation to stop the pandemic of gun violence in our schools and our communities.
